Smart Commute Markham, Richmond Hill Local Heroes!
Smart Commute MRH would like to recognize individuals in our community who have taken a path toward environmental sustainability by leaving their vehicles at home and considering other ways to commute. For example:
"Lidia Kafieh understands the importance of the Smart Commute program and is disappointed to see an increase of air pollution entering in our atmosphere by single occupancy vehicles. To help mitigate this issue, Lidia uses her full electric bike to run various errands in her community and is now proud to be doing her part to cut emissions!"

"I met Lidia at a school council meeting for the first time. I had raised a concern about school and street safety in our community, and what more could be done to keep our children out of harms way. We had been trying to have stop signs put in place to slow down the vehicular traffic. After the council meeting Lidia approached me, introduced herself and asked me for some information about my concern.
Less than a week later I came home from work to find that the Town had laid down the strips that monitor the vehicular flow on my street. That same evening I had a knock on my door and to my surprise it was Lidia. She explained that she had contacted the Town and had them re-open our request. Lidia looked into our concern and took affirmative action. This is the initiative that we need to see more often.
She is true to her word and a grounded resident in the community. She has made it very clear that there is no issue or concern too small. I believe we would be selling ourselves short if we don't support and vote for Lidia."
